Monday, November 23, 2015

Attainable Homes Calgary Corporation (AHCC) is pleased to announce the appointment of John Harrop to the position of President and CEO.

“I’m looking forward to working closely with the board, City Council and all the program partners to help more Calgarians live their best life through a secure home and a stronger community,” said Harrop.

AHCC is a nonprofit social enterprise and wholly owned subsidiary of The City of Calgary that connects builders, lenders and consultants to bring down the upfront costs of buying a home. Qualifying Calgarians can buy one of the organization’s homes with a down payment of only $2,000.

AHCC Chairman Adam Legge said the board of directors undertook a rigorous talent search following the announcement of David Watson’s retirement.

“We received applications from many desirable candidates and we are pleased that John will bring to the role more than 20 years of experience in real estate and sustainable design,” said Legge.

“With John’s skills and experience, AHCC is well positioned to navigate the economy in 2016 and to continue partnering with industry to deliver more homes for more deserving Calgarians.”

A born and raised Calgarian, John has worked in Calgary, Banff, Toronto, Vancouver, London and Helsinki. He has been involved in all aspects of the development process from design, planning and financing through to construction, closeout, sales and leasing. He has extensive experience in single family, townhome, mid-rise, high-rise and mixed-use residential.

Most recently, John was the VP Development with Kanas Corporation, overseeing several BuiltGreen gold and platinum projects, including Lumino Affordable Housing for Calgary Housing Company and Vivenda Apartments in Manchester.

John has also been involved in land development projects including Larch Park in Edmonton, Angus Glen Village in Ontario, and Canary Wharf in London, England.

About Attainable Homes Calgary Corporation:

Attainable Homes Calgary Corporation (AHCC) is a nonprofit social enterprise and wholly owned subsidiary of The City of Calgary that delivers well-appointed, entry-level homes for Calgarians who have been caught in the city’s growing housing affordability gap. Through our Attainable Home Ownership Program, we connect developers, builders, lenders, lawyers and others to bring down the upfront costs of buying a home for qualifying Calgarians.

How the program works:

• We offer below market prices on well-appointed apartment condos and townhomes.

• Qualifying home buyers contribute a $2,000 deposit and receive an equity loan to go towards the purchase price of their attainable home.

• When the home owner decides to sell their home, a portion of the home appreciation is shared with AHCC to be reinvested in the program to serve more Calgarians.

• The longer the home owner lives in the attainable home, the more of its appreciation they keep to a maximum of 75 percent after three years.

WE MAKE HOME OWNERSHIP HAPPEN

Attainable Homes Calgary Corporation (AHCC) is a nonprofit social enterprise and wholly owned subsidiary of The City of Calgary that delivers well-appointed, entry-level homes for Calgarians who have been caught in the city’s growing housing affordability gap.

Through our Attainable Home Ownership Program, we connect builders, developers, lenders, lawyers and others to bring down the upfront costs of ownership so qualifying Calgarians can buy their very own home with a $2,000 down payment. Furthermore, when you decide to buy an attainable home, you're also choosing to pay it forward to help another family in the future. When you eventually decide to refinance or sell your home on the market, a share of the appreciation goes back into the program to fund more developments that will help even more people get a foot on the property ladder.
