City-owned attainable home ownership program expands to Bowness

Attainable Homes Calgary Corporation (AHCC), in partnership with Partners Development Group, today released the details of a new BUILT GREEN® townhouse development in Bowness.

AHCC acquired the land from The City of Calgary when the organization was created in 2009. It has been planning the development with input from local residents for several years.

AHCC President and CEO John Harrop says the project design was inspired by its surroundings.

“Thanks to Hindle Architects and the input we received from the community and our building partner, we have a unique design that reflects elements of the Sunnyside Greenhouses across the road,” said Harrop.

“It has a beautiful streetscape and incorporates a park that will help people in the neighbourhood get to know each other.”

“Importantly, this is the only opportunity we are aware of in the area where people can buy a brand new townhouse at an attainable price point,” said Harrop.

The development, called ARRIVE at Bowness, includes a mix of attainable homes and market-priced units.

Qualifying Calgarians can buy one of the attainable homes with a $2,000 down payment and mortgage payments starting from approximately $1,425 a month. Applicants must earn no more than $90,000 if they have dependent children living in the home, and no more than $80,000 without children.

More than 22,000 people have registered on AHCC’s website since it started selling homes in February 2011.

The nonprofit is releasing the first dozen attainable homes at ARRIVE at Bowness for introductory pre-sales at a launch party on site, 7112 34 Avenue NW, Saturday, June 4, from 11am to 2pm.
