Drew & Kayleigh's Story

A message from Calgary Mayor and AHCC Director Naheed Nenshi's Twitter account first tipped Drew and Kayleigh off about Attainable Homes.

"Mayor Nenshi tweeted that if a family was within the 60 to 80k salary range and you need to buy a house, follow this link." That link took this young family of five to the AHCC Website.

Like many Calgarians who learn about our program for the first time, Drew was initially skeptical about the Attainable Homes story.

"I read the entire Website, but honestly I found it too good to be true," confesses Drew. But their new status as proud homeowners is proof positive that our program works.

"We would always talk about homeownership," shares Kayleigh, "but it was always coming up with the down payment that was the issue."

This prospect of a steep down payment is commonly mentioned by our customers as the main barrier to entry into Calgary's housing market. But as this young family soon discovered, Attainable Homes removes this barrier.

"They pretty much helped out with everything. The process was quite easy," shares Drew. His wife Kayleigh concurs, adding "Once we had gone to the information session, we simply did the paperwork with the AHCC team, we met with the bank to set up a morgage, we picked the home we wanted and we moved in."

When asked about his family's overall experience with AHCC, Drew points out: "It changed our lives because we own a home now; we're not paying someone else's mortgage."

The family recommends any middle-income Calgarian caught in the rental rut to register for our program and get started on an easy, early path to homeownership. "Know your options, and if it works for you then just go for it because it's honestly one of the easiest things to do," advises Kayleigh.

WE MAKE HOME OWNERSHIP HAPPEN

Attainable Homes Calgary Corporation (AHCC) is a nonprofit social enterprise and wholly owned subsidiary of The City of Calgary that delivers well-appointed, entry-level homes for Calgarians who have been caught in the city’s growing housing affordability gap.

Through our Attainable Home Ownership Program, we connect builders, developers, lenders, lawyers and others to bring down the upfront costs of ownership so qualifying Calgarians can buy their very own home with a $2,000 down payment. Furthermore, when you decide to buy an attainable home, you're also choosing to pay it forward to help another family in the future. When you eventually decide to refinance or sell your home on the market, a share of the appreciation goes back into the program to fund more developments that will help even more people get a foot on the property ladder.

Do you aspire to own a home of your own? Contact us today and let us show you just how attainable this milestone can be.
