First Homeowners Move into The Heights, Marking a New Chapter for Affordable Homeownership in Calgary

One year ago, this site was an active construction zone. Today, it is home.

In June, we celebrated an exciting milestone as the first homeowners moved into The Heights—the first community in Attainable Homes Calgary’s new permanently affordable homeownership program.

For our team, this marks the beginning of a new model of affordable homeownership in Calgary that will create opportunities for generations of moderate-income families.

A Home You Can Truly Call Your Own

Buying a home has become increasingly difficult for many working Calgarians. Rising home prices have pushed ownership further out of reach, even for people with steady careers and good incomes.

Our permanently affordable homeownership program was designed to change that.

Through partnerships that make below-market land available and by building thoughtfully designed, high-quality homes, buyers can purchase a home at a price significantly below market value.

Homeowners build equity as they pay down their mortgage and can live in their home for as long as they choose.

When they’re ready for their next chapter, they sell the home back to Attainable Homes Calgary for the same price they originally paid. We then offer that home to another qualified buyer, preserving its affordability forever.

A Lasting Legacy

The Heights will include 230 townhomes, each remaining permanently affordable for future homeowners.

Instead of affordability disappearing when a home is resold on the open market, these homes stay within our program, creating a lasting inventory of attainable homeownership opportunities in Calgary.

This approach allows more people to experience the benefits of homeownership—including building equity, establishing roots in their community, and investing in their own future rather than paying rent.

Affordable Doesn’t Mean Compromising on Quality

One of the comments we’ve heard most often from visitors touring our new showhome—and from the first homeowners themselves—is how surprised they are by the quality.

These homes don’t fit outdated perceptions of what “affordable housing” looks like.

Built by Hopewell Residential, the townhomes feature modern finishes, thoughtful layouts and the same attention to quality buyers expect in the market housing sector.

Because everyone deserves a home they can be proud of.

Built Through Partnership

Communities like The Heights are only possible through strong partnerships.

We’re grateful to Calgary Municipal Land Corporation (CMLC) for making affordable land available and for sharing our vision of expanding homeownership opportunities for moderate-income Calgarians.

Located just minutes from downtown and steps from International Avenue, The Heights demonstrates that affordable homeownership can exist in well-connected, amenity-rich neighbourhoods where people want to live.

Looking Ahead

Celebrating the first homeowners moving into The Heights is just the beginning.

As more families receive their keys over the coming months, this community will continue to grow into something much bigger than a collection of townhomes. It will become proof that permanently affordable homeownership is possible—and that by preserving affordability for future buyers, we can create opportunities that last for generations.

Congratulations to our first homeowners. We’re honoured to be part of your homeownership journey, and we look forward to welcoming many more families to The Heights.
